Climb Mount Kilimanjaro – Rongai Route

A quieter, more gradual route from the northern side of the mountain - offering a unique perspective and a less crowded path to the summit.

The Rongai Route is the only trail that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side, near the Kenyan border, offering a quieter and more remote trekking experience compared to the busier southern routes.

Known for its gradual ascent and relatively gentle gradients, the Rongai Route is a great option for those looking for a less crowded climb while still experiencing the incredible journey to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. The route passes through a variety of landscapes - from forest and moorland to alpine desert - with expansive views across the plains of Kenya along the way.

While considered one of the easier routes in terms of terrain, the shorter itinerary means acclimatisation must still be taken seriously. The route joins the Marangu Route for the final ascent and descent, combining a peaceful approach with a classic summit experience

Mount Kilimanjaro: Africa’s Highest Peak

Mount Kilimanjaro is the world’s tallest freestanding mountain, rising dramatically from the plains of Tanzania at around 900 metres to its summit at 5,895 metres. Formed millions of years ago through volcanic activity, the mountain is made up of three cones - Shira, Mawenzi, and Kibo - with Uhuru Peak on Kibo standing as the highest point in Africa. Although located close to the equator, its summit is covered in snow and glaciers, creating one of the most striking natural contrasts on Earth.

Kilimanjaro is renowned not only for its height but for its incredible diversity. Climbers pass through five distinct ecological zones, from lush rainforest to alpine desert and the arctic summit, encountering unique landscapes, plant life, and wildlife along the way. While the climb is non-technical, conditions can be unpredictable, with varying temperatures and weather patterns throughout the ascent, making preparation and adaptability key to a successful and rewarding experience.
