Important Information

Booking the Inca Trail early is essentail. Permits are limited and always in high demand. Permits are sold on a first come first served basis, once they are gone, they are gone.

We recommend booking a minimum of 4 months prior to your departure. We will always try to offer you avaiable dates. However if there is no availability for the dates you want, we will offer the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu instead.

The Salkantay Trail is easier to book and less crowded, so makes a perfect alternative.

The Inca Legacy of Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is not only one of the most breathtaking destinations in the world, but also one of the most fascinating remnants of the ancient Inca civilisation. Believed to have been built in the 15th century during the reign of Emperor Pachacuti, the site is thought to have served as a royal estate or sacred ceremonial centre. Its precise stonework, agricultural terraces, and sophisticated water systems reflect the remarkable engineering and architectural skill of the Incas.

Hidden high in the Andes and largely untouched by Spanish conquest, Machu Picchu remained unknown to the outside world until its rediscovery in 1911. Today, it stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a powerful symbol of Inca culture, offering visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience one of history’s most extraordinary achievements.

Arrival in Cusco

Arrive in Cusco, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and begin acclimatising to the altitude.

Rainbow Mountain_Group.png

OPTIONAL ADD-ON: RAINBOW MOUNTAIN (VINICUNCA)

For those looking to extend their adventure, an optional visit to Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) offers a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

Located in the Cusco region, near the towering Ausangate - one of the highest peaks in Peru - Vinicunca sits at an altitude of over 5,000 metres. This striking mountain is famous for its natural rainbow-like colours, created by layers of mineral deposits that form vivid bands across the landscape.

The journey to Rainbow Mountain is an early start, but the reward is extraordinary. As the sun rises over the Andes, the colours of the mountain shift and intensify, creating a constantly changing and dramatic scene. Set against a backdrop of vast, open landscapes and snow-capped peaks, the experience feels both remote and surreal.

While the altitude makes this a more challenging excursion, it is a spectacular addition for those wanting to explore even more of Peru’s natural beauty beyond Machu Picchu.
