WHAT YOU WILL SEE & EXPERIENCE

Every day brings a new adventure as you explore different regions of Madeira, each with its own unique landscapes and character. The island's dramatic terrain and changing microclimates create an incredible variety of hiking environments, making every trek feel completely different from the last.

On the northern side of the island, you'll discover lush green landscapes and sections of Madeira's famous Laurisilva Forest, one of the largest surviving laurel forests in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These ancient forests are home to unique plant species, endemic wildlife, waterfalls, and some of Madeira's most beautiful hiking trails.

The southern coast offers a striking contrast, with sunnier weather, dramatic cliffs, and spectacular coastal views across the Atlantic Ocean. Along the eastern and western regions of the island, trails wind through volcanic landscapes, rugged headlands, mountain ridges, and remote viewpoints that showcase Madeira's extraordinary natural beauty.

Whether you're walking through misty forests, following historic levada trails, or standing atop dramatic mountain peaks, Madeira offers a trekking experience unlike anywhere else in Europe.

MADEIRA'S FAMOUS LEVADA TRAILS

One of Madeira's most unique features is its extensive network of Levadas - historic irrigation channels that carry water from the wetter northern mountains to the drier southern regions of the island.

Running alongside these channels are some of Madeira's most iconic walking trails. These routes offer hikers the opportunity to explore forests, valleys, waterfalls, tunnels, and mountain landscapes while following pathways that have played an important role in the island's history for centuries.

The Levadas provide access to areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach and are one of the main reasons Madeira has become such a renowned trekking destination.

Central Mountains
